Working in NHS dementia & frailty services for many years
has led me to create Evacuwax -
a professional and bespoke earwax
removal service where I can bring the clinic to you.
As many GP practices are no longer required to provide earwax removal services, an ideal
solution is to have the treatment in the comfort of your own home.
The use of a wax softener 2-3 days prior
to your appointment is required to aid
effective & safe wax removal.
Treatment time is around 30-45 mins
Sometimes wax can be stubborn to remove,
especially if it has been inside the ear canal,
for a long time, so it may require a follow
up appointment to remove all the wax.
One Ear £50.
Both Ears £75.
A £25 consultation fee applies if no wax is present.
During the visit I will need access
to 2 hard chairs of the same height,
a small table and a power supply point.
This allows me to perform ear
wax removal safely.
It is essential after care advice is followed.
This increases the recovery and minimises
risks of unnecessary infections.
All after care advice is discussed post
treatment and is tailored to give the best
possible outcome.
Everyone produces ear wax (cerumen). It's an important and natural secretion found in the ear.
It keeps the ear canal lubricated and protects the ear against dust, dirt and bacteria, which helps to prevent infection.
It is eliminated naturally and
migrates out of the ear without us even knowing.
To quote the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE)
“Earwax build-up can cause hearing difficulties and discomfort, and it can contribute to outer ear infections…Hearing loss caused by impacted earwax can be frustrating and stressful. If untreated, it can contribute to social isolation and depression”.
There is also a proven connection between hearing loss and dementia, as people with mild hearing loss are twice as likely to develop dementia - please click on the link The latest developments in research to understand the link between hearing loss and dementia.
Firstly, we will record any symptoms, previous ear health history and general physical wellbeing including any medications.
Then the ear canal will be examined using an otoscope to determine if there is a build up of earwax. We will then discuss the best method of removing ear wax tailored to your needs & what you can expect from each method.
The ear is rinsed with warm water from an electronic irrigator.
The wax and water is collected in a cup-shaped receiver which you hold under the ear. The electronic irrigators used have controlled pressures and are gentle and safe.
Ear syringing does make some noise but this is not excessive or uncomfortable. Most people who have irrigation find it to be a fairly pleasant procedure.
